Gift of Securities

Gifting stock or mutual funds is a wonderful way to support the Y and bypass capital gains taxes. A gift of stock (or other appreciated property) entitles you to a market value tax deduction and if the stock has been held for more than one year, capital gains tax may be avoided on any appreciation by donating the stock prior to sale. The Y benefits by selling the stock without paying taxes on the gain, and you benefit from making a contribution that would be larger than what you might have been able to donate in cash.

Donor Advised Funds (DAFs)

A DAF is a type of charitable giving account that allows donors to combine multiple donations into a single account and make grants over time. This can be a convenient way to give to the YMCASF, as you can recommend grants to the organization whenever you choose. Contributions to a DAF are invested and grow tax-free. This means the return on your charitable contributions can go straight to the Y and other charities you admire.
