Our mission is to build healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities for all generations
For more than 160 years, the YMCA has addressed the most pressing social issues of the day—whether helping newcomers adjust to life in America, providing safe spaces for youth from all backgrounds to learn and grow and inspiring action in and across our communities.
In the greater San Francisco area, our YMCA provides accessible support and opportunities that empower people and communities to learn, grow and become healthier. With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves the San Francisco Bay Area's health and well-being, and provides opportunities to engage with and support each other. Every day, we work side by side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to improve their lives and their community. At the YMCA of Greater San Francisco, our mission is to build healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities for all generations.

BRINGING COMMUNITY FORWARD
Today, in a COVID-impacted world, we know our communities faces unprecedented challenges: growing disparities in academic achievement, high rates of chronic disease, and increasing challenges to our youth, adult, and elders’ mental health and wellbeing. These challenges, and so many more, are abundant in all three counties the YMCA of Greater San Francisco services. In early 2021, YSF launched our 2030 Vision process and Strategic Plan. With diverse and comprehensive voices as our anchor, we sought to understand how we can best respond, support, and partner with the communities we aim to serve. The needs, aspirations, and vision of our communities will be our best asset in remaining a responsive, dynamic, and relevant organization in 2030 and for generations to come.
Guided by the generosity of our communities’ insights, our understanding of the many challenges we are collectively facing, and the immediate need for organizations to quickly adapt to our changing world, the YMCA of Greater San Francisco has committed to a strategic plan prioritizing the following five areas of focus:
