Support The YMCA of Greater San Francisco

All this critical work cannot be delivered without the robust community partnerships and generous donations of time and financial support provided by you – members of our Bay Area community.

Ways To Support the YMCA of Greater San Francisco

Join our cause of strengthening community by investing today. Learn more about different ways you can become a part of community transformation.

Sponsorship

Support a signature event and build community while having fun! Throughout the year, the Y engages the Bay Area community in a variety of events.

IRA Distribution

If you are 70½ or older, an IRA charitable rollover is a way you can help continue our work and benefit this year.

Gift of Property

Donating appreciated real estate, such as a home, vacation property, undeveloped land, farmland, ranch or commercial property can make a great gift to our organization.

If you are interested in learning more about donating property, please email our team.

Planned Giving

Create your legacy by exploring how you can support our mission well into the future by joining the Y’s Heritage Club.

The YMCA of Greater San Francisco recognizes the generous individuals who are leaving a legacy commitment to the Y through their wills, retirement plans, and other planned-giving arrangements. A gift to the Y’s endowment ensures the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility endure and programs will positively impact our community for generations to come.

Make the YMCA of Greater San Francisco a beneficiary by:

  • Bequest provision in your will or revocable trust
  • Life Insurance Policy
  • Charitable Remainder Trust & Charitable Gift Annuity
  • Retirement Plans
  • Real Estate
  • Outright Gift (Cash or Securities)
  • Memorial or Honorary Gift

Donor Advised Funds

A DAF is a type of charitable giving account that allows donors to combine multiple donations into a single account and make grants over time. This can be a convenient way to give to the YMCA of Greater San Francisco, as you can recommend grants to the organization whenever you choose. Contributions to a DAF are invested and grow tax-free. This means the return on your charitable contributions can go straight to the Y and other charities you admire.

Gift of Securities

Gifting stock or mutual funds is a wonderful way to support the Y and bypass capital gains taxes. A gift of stock (or other appreciated property) entitles you to a market value tax deduction and if the stock has been held for more than one year, capital gains tax may be avoided on any appreciation by donating the stock prior to sale. The Y benefits by selling the stock without paying taxes on the gain, and you benefit from making a contribution that would be larger than what you might have been able to donate in cash.

For stock held in brokerage accounts, your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock through a direct transfer to the YMCA of Greater San Francisco.

Your Support changes Lives

Three men posing for a photo.

The YMCA has been a lifeline. My family has received lifesaving services and resources, allowing me to provide for them. We received educational support for our children when they were in school and then workforce development now that they have graduated high school. Without the support of the YMCA, we would have gone underwater.

A young child with a topknot hairstyle, wearing a light pink shirt, smiles while playing with colorful building pieces on a carpeted floor. An adult's arm is visible in the foreground.

I am a recipient of the Maximum Reimbursement Amount (MRA scholarship), and it has helped me and my family tremendously. It has been a true blessing. Because of this scholarship, I could keep my daughter in preschool, otherwise I would not have been able to afford it. By having childcare, I can go to work and can keep my job. The YMCA has also supported my family with food and emotional support during this difficult time for my family. Everyone there is like family to me. I am truly grateful.”

A young child with braids and a Nike tracksuit kneels on a gray rug, smiling and holding a small object in a sunlit room with wooden furniture and shelves in the background.

I lost my job during the pandemic. If it wasn’t for Maritza, I don’t know where I would be. Since I called her over the phone, she has helped me from start to finish. She provided me with a computer, ensured I had internet access, helped me with my resume, made copies of my documents, and even prepared me for my interview. It is because of her that I now have a job. It is also because of her that I was able to get financial assistance from Children’s Council so that I could afford preschool for my son. And it is because of her that I am now also enrolled in City College to further my education and have more career choices.
