Fitness Orientations

At the YMCA, it is important that all members feel safe and comfortable while using the equipment in our facilities.

Available to all adult members, an Equipment Orientation can help you on your wellness journey by offering you a step-by-step guide on how to use the equipment on the Fitness Floor.

During the Equipment Orientation, a YMCA Wellness Attendant will answer your questions and help you determine correct weight and resistance on the machines.

Youth Orientations

Our Youth Orientations are hour-long instructional sessions that are required before youth and teens ages 10 - 17 may use strength and cardio equipment at the Y.

These orientations introduce youth and teens to age-appropriate weight machines and cardio equipment and include supportive instruction on proper use and safety information. After completion of the orientation, youth and teens can use the cardio and weight machine areas of our facilities.

If teens 13-17 years old would like to use free weights they will be required to complete an additional Teen Free Weight Orientation.

GUIDELINES FOR AGE GROUPS

For the safety of our youth members, different age groups are only allowed access to certain equipment.

AGE 10 - 12

A Youth Orientation must be completed with a parent/guardian before using the following equipment:

  • CARDIO - Bike, Treadmill, Hand Crank
  • STRENGTH - Cable Machine, Leg Press, Row
  • FREE WEIGHTS - Use only with a YMCA Personal Trainer
     

AGE 16 - 17

A Youth Orientation must be completed before using the following equipment:

  • CARDIO - Full Access
  • STRENGTH - Full Access
  • FREE WEIGHTS* - Full Access (A Teen Free Weight Orientation must also be completed)

 

AGE 13 - 15

A Youth Orientation must be completed before using the following equipment:

  • CARDIO - Bike, Treadmill, Hand Crank, AMT, Elliptical, Rowing Machine
  • STRENGTH - Cable Machine, All Machines
  • FREE WEIGHTS - Use with a YMCA Personal Trainer or after a Teen Free Weight Orientation

Book a Youth Orientation

Contact your branch to schedule a Youth Orientation. Youth 13-17 must also complete a Teen Free Weight Orientation to use the free weights, which can be scheduled after the initial Youth Orientation.
