About the Job

Under the supervision of the Community Programs Director, the Teen Center Coordinator will support the Bayview YMCA Youth & Teen Department and its operation. The Teen Center Coordinator is responsible for the supervision, operation, development, and implementation of dynamic out of school time programs for middle school and high school-aged youth. Highly collaborative, the Teen Center Coordinator builds and maintains strong and productive relationships with and among youth, families, Bayview YMCA staff, partner organizations, and community members of the Bayview. They should be adept at working in a fast-paced environment with students of color and thinking fast on their feet.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • 1-2 years’ experience working with youth
  • Experience working with youth after school or enrichment programming
  • Must be available Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week
  • Knowledge of San Francisco community health and wellness services
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting, engaging, and serving parents, caregivers, and youth
  • Understanding of community- and school-based programming based upon Youth Development Practices & Principles, the Common Core State Standards, and Restorative Practices
  • Experience working in communities of color with low-income populations
  • Able to effectively communicate to individuals and groups, both orally and in writing
  • Courteous, professional, and able to reason logically
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized
  • Able to establish and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to work with people from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual orientation backgrounds
  • Passion for developing and sustaining quality services for youth and families, and a desire to learn and understand needs of YMCA’s constituents, staff, and partners
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date
  • Fingerprint background check clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • BA/BS in education, public health, psychology or related field preferred or equivalent professional and community experience
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Tagalog
  • Experience with restorative practices and de-escalation strategies
