About the Job

Urban Services YMCA is seeking a Safety & Support Leader for James Denman Middle School Beacon - 241 Oneida Ave, San Francisco, CA 94112.

Under the direction of the Site Director, the Safety & Support Leader is responsible for monitoring the school grounds including the courtyard, restrooms, building interior, and surrounding grounds to keep students safe and engaged during the school day and out-of-school time programs. The Safety & Support Leader will assist the Site Director as needed, especially in the areas of behavior management and conflict mediation, using restorative practices and de-escalation strategies.

After School Program dates: must be available to work August 19, 2024 – June 4, 2025

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years or older 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be available Monday-Friday during school and program hours, occasional weekend shifts
  • 2+ years of experience working with school aged youth in an organized setting
  • 1+ year of experience in a community engagement, service, or support role
  • Experience working with multi-ethnic and multicultural elementary/middle school youth
  • Passion for social justice and knowledge of the local community, its residents, and a desire to make a difference
  • Skills in restorative practices and/or de-escalation training
  • Strong understanding of the theory and practice of youth development
  • Ability to engage with youth and build meaningful relationships
  • Creativity and interest in planning hands-on projects for youth
  • Proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds
  • Current YMCA approved CPR and First Aid certification (can complete upon hire)
  • Fingerprint background check clearance
  • TB test clearance

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Associate’s Degree or higher
  • Security Guard Registration and/or Certified De-Escalation and Restraint Training
  • 3+ years’ experience working with multi-ethnic and multicultural elementary/middle school youth
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Tagalog, or other languages
