About the Job

Under the direction of the Sr. Director, the Shih Yu Lang Central Programs Manager oversees the daily operations and activities of the facility. This includes a strong emphasis on creating a welcoming environment, interfacing with community and partners- including youth/teens, families, neighbors, Y staff, and volunteers implementing efficient operational systems and maintaining up-to-date communication and messaging. The Program Manager will oversee the opening and closing of the facility.

The Program Manager is the most knowledgeable person in the building regarding operations. The Program Manager directly and indirectly supervises the entire building and building activities. They will coordinate all building activities and will act as lead staff for the facility during hours of operation. The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and scheduling the rental of the gym space including community Partner Request and wellness activities such as group classes like Tai Chi, yoga, and senior aerobics. They will work directly with the public during open hours and special events in a variety of ways including tabling events in the community.

This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the building and facility occupants including the CARE Program teens, all employees, participants, and visitors. They are responsible for coordinating and managing technology & online presence; building maintenance, and repair activities as appropriate and in partnership with the Facility Director; liaising with vendors to ensure smooth daily building operations. The Programs Manager is considered a first responder in the case of emergency/disaster/safety, alarm notifications and must respond to urgent situations.

Salary Range: $30.00 to $35.00 per hour

Minimum Qualifications

  • 23+ years old
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be available M-F, 9am-6pm and be flexible to a schedule that can include later evening times/nights, early mornings and weekends as needed or required.
  • 3+ years of experience with customer service, office administration, project coordination and coordinating activities.
  • Advanced skills in customer service, conflict management, organization, oral and written communication, and proactive decision making.
  • Proficient with Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Demonstrated ability to meet stringent deadlines and adapt quickly to changes in priorities. 
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to urgent situations calmly and efficiently.
  • YMCA approved CPR/First Aid Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • The equivalent of, or a bachelor’s degree in a related area
  • Knowledge of youth development
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Cantonese/Mandarin
  • Deep knowledge / experience / familiarity of the Tenderloin community
