About the Job

Under the supervision of the James Denman Director of Youth & Families Programs, the Environmental Prevention Specialist is responsible for supporting the ongoing development and implementation of the Environmental Prevention program (EP) as well as support DPH Strengthening Families Program (SFP) at James Denman Middle School and Charles Drew Elementary. The EP Specialist will facilitate with a minimum of 20 youth for a 24-week cycle in English throughout the fiscal year. The EP Specialist will be responsible for attending all Youth Alcohol Prevention Coalition (YAPC) meetings while overseeing the 3 youth participants interning for the coalition. The EP Specialist works as a team member with the other Beacon staff to ensure a holistic approach to the student needs. Much time and energy are spent in case management approaches. The EP Specialist will also be well versed and accountable to the ECCO database and SUD hours as well as keeping track of attendance. The EP specialist is responsible for managing and facilitating the EP program funded by SF Department of Public Health. They must also follow the curriculum provided, manage incentives, follow up with students and outreach.

This position is concerned with the delivery of services in the James Denman community. To this end the EP Specialist must have the interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students identified. Case Management skills, oral communication skills with families and youth, and the ability to clearly document outcome and data per program protocols are all necessary. The EP Specialist adheres to all confidentiality procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 21 years old
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Must be available Monday through Friday during program hours and some weekends.
  • 2+ years of experience working with youth
  • Experience with case management.
  • Proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socio-economic, educational, religious, sexual and generational backgrounds
  • Excellent customer service skills and telephone manners
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft apps. including Word and Excel
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with demonstrated follow through on tasks; multi-project/multi-task orientation
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • YMCA approved CPR and First Aid Certification
  • TB test clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish
