Orientations

At the YMCA of Greater San Francisco, our goal is for you to feel comfortable and confident while using our facilities.  Over 1-2 meetings, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with a wellness attendant who can answer questions about our wellness offerings and equipment, and start you on the first steps of your time at the Y. 

Orientations are an included benefit of your membership that can get you started on or boost your wellness journey.  

If you are interested in learning how to use the equipment, come prepared in your workout attire and closed toed shoes. 

Book an Equipment Orientation
Contact the Membership Desk at your branch and they will match you with a Wellness Attendant to assist you.

youth orientations

Our Youth Orientations is an hour-long instruction session that is required before youth and teens age 10-17 can use strength and cardio equipment at the Y.  

These orientations introduce youth and teens to age-appropriate weight machines and cardio equipment and include supportive instruction on proper use and safety information. After completion of the orientation, youth and teens can use the cardio and weight machine areas of our facilities.  

If teens 13-17 years old would like to use free weights they will be required to complete an additional Teen Free Weight Orientation.

Book a Youth Orientation
Contact your branch to schedule a Youth Orientation. Youth 13-17 must also complete a Teen Free Weight Orientation to use the free weights, which can be scheduled after the initial Youth Orientation.

GUIDELINES FOR AGE GROUPS 

AGE 10 – 12

Wellness Orientation must be completed with a parent/guardian before using the following equipment:

  • CARDIO – Bike, Treadmill, Hand Crank
  • STRENGTH – Cable Machine, Leg Press, Row
  • FREE WEIGHTS – Use only with a YMCA Personal Trainer

AGE 13 – 15

Wellness Orientation must be completed with a parent/guardian before using the following equipment:

  • CARDIO – Bike, Treadmill, Hand Crank, AMT, Elliptical, Rowing Machine
  • STRENGTH – Cable Machine, All Machines
  • FREE WEIGHTS – Use with a YMCA Personal Trainer or after a specific Orientation

AGE 16 – 17

Wellness Orientation must be completed with a parent/guardian before using the following equipment:

  • CARDIO – Full Access
  • STRENGTH – Full Access
  • FREE WEIGHTS* – Full Access (A Teen Free Weight Orientation must also be completed)
