Reaching Our Goals Together

Volunteers are the backbone of the Y’s mission to build healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities for all generations. By dedicating their time and talents, our volunteers play a critical role in nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving health and well-being, and inspiring action in our communities. They share a common vision with our members and neighbors: creating safe, inclusive, and connected communities where everyone can thrive. With a commitment to equity and diversity, our volunteers welcome individuals from all backgrounds, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to Be their authentic selves, Belong to something greater, and Become the best version of themselves.

The Impact of Our Volunteers

At the YMCA, our volunteers bring invaluable skills, ideas, and passion to the table. Their contributions drive innovation and enable us to adapt swiftly to the evolving needs of our communities. Their dedication is not just helpful; it’s absolutely essential to our mission’s success.

Group Volunteerism

Corporate, school and community groups are welcome to join us for volunteer days: we love the support, and our volunteers love seeing the joy on a kids face at camp, or cleaning up our community gardens! See our volunteer page for listings, or contact [email protected] to discuss ongoing, large or unique opportunities for corporations or groups.

Volunteer Stories

Being a volunteer at the Y has impacted my life in a positive way. It has deepened my sense of community and given me the opportunity to feed my spirit by giving back to others.

I’ve always enjoyed giving back. However, I chose the Y because Cesnae Crawford asked me if I would like to come out and do a Turkey giveaway about 12 years ago and I haven’t left since. The work that the Y does for the kids and communities aligns with my passion and purpose.

One thing that I’m proud of is the volunteer service I do with the Reach n Rise program. Being able to give back to the kids and be a positive role model has enriched my spirit and put a smile on my heart every Wednesday when I show up for group mentoring. I always say “My job pays my bills, but the volunteer service feeds my spirit which is priceless” #InvestInOurYouth

How has being a volunteer for the Y impacted your life? It gets me out of my apartment and it feels good to be doing something for others.

Why did you choose to volunteer for the Y? I had a stroke and was enrolled in the post stoke exercise program at the Y. I was not able to go back to work after my stroke and I needed to do something useful in my life. I asked if they needed volunteers and was promptly taken up on that. I started volunteering when the senior center was still in the main Y building before it moved across the street to the annex.

What are you most proud of regarding your volunteer service at the Y? I have made friends with the staff at the Y. That is why I am still volunteering – because of the people.

Volunteering to do whatever is needed and necessary to maintain a robust taiko program for seniors at the Stonestown Senior center is a priority for me. It keeps me connected to a senior community who share my love for the art of taiko and provides me with opportunities for engaging with a larger community when we perform at public events.
