Supporting BHM beyond February
In honor of Black History Month, the YMCA of Greater San Francisco celebrates our African-American staff and their dedication to the significant impact within our Black communities. This month serves as a reminder of the crucial role the Black community has played in shaping our Y, our nation, and many vibrant communities throughout the Bay Area. We are committed to fostering a safe environment that values and respects diversity, recognizing and celebrating Black heritage and the ongoing contributions of the Black community here and beyond.
As an organization, we are committed to the continued education necessary to becoming an anti-racist organization, as well as doing our part to build equity in our communities for our Black youth and families who have been disproportionately underserved. We continue intentional programs with community collaboration and response to create a more just and equitable world: Black Boys and Young Men of Color, Bayview Safety Swim and Splash, Beacon Partnership School programs, HOPESF Champion Program, and more.
While we are excited to host these programs, we acknowledge that there is much more needed to adequately meet the needs of the Black Community in the greater San Francisco area. We remain dedicated to building partnerships with the communities we serve, so instead of doing TO we are collaboratively working WITH community to meet the needs, which will spark the momentum needed to break down white supremacist structures.
YSF will continue bridging the gaps in academia, mental and physical wellness, and financial stability for the Black community. We encourage you to continue to speak on these topics that affect our black community, learn more about our specific programs that illuminate this work, and recognize our colleagues and leaders who support this mission in all the ways you can beyond the month of February.
Join us in celebration this Black History month!
