Cooking Up the Perfect Path: Meet Lahrul
Finding Culinary Passion in High School
Meet Lahrul
Eighteen-year-old Lahrul found his passion for culinary arts through his involvement with the Bayview YMCA’s Primed and Prepped program. Primed and Prepped provides students with the tools to mitigate employment barriers and hone their leadership skills. Focused on hospitality management and culinary arts, the program is designed to support young men and women of color, ages 14-19, to develop culinary skills and be placed in internships and jobs.
The Entrepreneur’s Dream
Primed and Prepped paved the way for Lahrul’s career path and equipped him with the skills needed to chase his dreams of opening a global cuisine café. Now Lahrul has the honor of being an intern chef at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. Continuing his dream of becoming a top chef, Lahrul currently attends City College of San Francisco as the youngest student in the culinary arts program.
A Career in Cooking
This program is a gateway to higher education and entry level jobs in the hospitality and culinary arts industry. It prepares students for entry level positions as line and prep cooks, bus boys and dishwashers. Primed & Preped provides students with opportunities to intern at places like Intercontinental Hotel, Fairmont Hotel, Marriott Hotel, Sears Fine Food and Lori’s Diner.
