Virtual Run: March 2 – March 31
Now in its 47th year, the Chinatown YMCA CCHP Lunar New Year Run gives participants a rare opportunity to run through San Francisco Chinatown’s historic (and slightly hilly) streets, taking in the architecture, scents, and sounds of a bustling and vibrant community. For those who prefer to participate virtually, the event will again offer a virtual race to include our friends and partners from across the globe. 2025 is the Year of the Snake, known for their wisdom, strong desire to help others, and curiosity, they are naturally gifted leaders as they are enigmatic.
Proceeds from this event will support youth and teen programs, social services for low-income families, and financial assistance to make the Chinatown YMCA’s programs accessible to all.
All registered runners will receive a runner’s t-shirt with registration.

Our in-person course is a 5K RUN/WALK or a 10K RUN (no 10K walkers) and starts at 8:00 AM on Grant Avenue/Sacramento Street. It finishes at 9:30 AM on Kearny/Sacramento Street. The course has some short hills but is mostly flat. Mile markers along the way are on the right side of the course. The 5K is one time around the course and the 10K is two loops around the course. Please see the course map.
Looking for volunteer opportunities?
Every year we rely on over 150 volunteers to ensure our run through historic Chinatown is safe and fun for all. Most adult volunteers will be positioned at major intersections along the course to ensure traffic is controlled for the safety of our runners. Positions for youth volunteers are also available. Register online by February 14th, 2025.
All volunteers will receive a “Year of the Snake” T-shirt.

In-Person: Sunday, March 2, rain or shine, THE RACE IS ON! Start time is 8:00 AM and will go for 1.5 hours, or until 9:30 AM. Runners may start lining up at 7:15 AM.
Virtual: Participants in the virtual 5k/10k will have 3 weeks to complete and submit their results on the race roster site. The date range to submit results is March 2 – March 31, 2025. Directions on how to submit results will be provided via email upon registration.
All participants on the course are to be registered for the in-person event and wearing the official bib number. BANDIT RUNNERS/WALKERS who have not registered and are not wearing bib numbers will be asked to leave the course by the course Marshals and will not be allowed in the finish line chutes.
In-Person Runners: Please pick up your bibs, run shirts, and pins on designated pick up times. Runner shirts, tech shirts, and pins will still need to be picked up in person at one of the bib pick up times listed below.
Bib and T-Shirt pick ups schedule at the Chinatown YMCA (855 Sacramento Street) during the following times:
Friday, February 28, 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Saturday, March 1, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Race day, Sunday, March 2, 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM
Virtual Runners: All virtual runners will receive their runner kits via USPS to the address listed at registration. Runners who wish to receive their kits on or before 3/2/2025 will need to register by 1/31/2025 at 11:59 PM PST. All others who register for the virtual event after February 1 will receive their runner kits after March 2, but no later than May 5, 2025. Package arrival is dependent on USPS so are subject to delays. We appreciate your patience and understanding if there are delays.
Parking: Paid parking is available at Portsmouth Square Garage (at Kearny Street and Clay Street) and Sutter Stockton Garage (333 Sutter Street and Stockton Street). Street Parking is available if you arrive early, but please do not park in designated “RACE COURSE/NO PARKING” areas, block garages, or park in private lots. Limited free metered parking is available Sundays.

We will be using Chipped timing! You will be able to get you times right away at https://onyourmarkevents.com/results-2022/ and we will email all participants the site where they can find their results as well.

Top finishers in each category (adult male/female, nonbinary and youth) will receive special awards from our generous sponsors. Prizes will be awarded to the Best Dressed Snake! Below you’ll find detailed instructions and FAQs on how to track your participation and submit your results:
Step 1: You may complete your virtual run at the time and location of your choice between March 2 and March 31. You can choose to log your performance on a tracking app/device of your choice (i.e., Strava, RunKeeper, MapMyRun, etc.) or just set a timer.
*Note: if you have the Run Keeper app, you can automatically sync your results to our results page. For instructions on how to set up RunKeeper, follow these instructions.
Step 2: You can submit your virtual result by clicking here.
*If you need assistance submitting your results, please follow these instructions.
Step 3: Once there, you will be prompted to sign in to Race Roster or enter your name and confirmation number (which can be found on the original confirmation email you received after registering for the run).
Step 4: Select the event in which you participated from the drop-down menu and enter the time it took to complete your run. Optional: If you would like to upload a photo of your app/device summary report, you can do that.
Hit submit and you are all set!
