Empowering Bay Area Teens: YMCA and Alaska Airlines Join Forces

By Meghan Case

The YMCA of Greater San Francisco is thrilled to announce a transformative three-year, $120,000 partnership with Alaska Airlines to address the growing workforce gap impacting underserved Bay Area teens.

This partnership is more than a financial investment—it’s a commitment to building a brighter future for over 420 teens, providing them with the tools, resources, and opportunities to succeed in high-demand career fields like technology, culinary arts, and environmental justice.

Through programs like Primed & Prepped, which trains aspiring chefs and hospitality managers, and offers hands-on initiatives like financial literacy workshops and career exploration events, the YMCA is helping teens develop the confidence and skills they need to thrive in their personal and professional lives.

“This partnership isn’t just about financial investment; it’s about investing in their future,” said David Tucker, Managing Director, California Public Affairs at Alaska Airlines. “We’re proud to help break down barriers for these young individuals, giving them the resources and encouragement to soar toward their dreams.”

As part of the partnership, Alaska Airlines will support key initiatives, including:
. A Career Exploration Kickoff in March 2025: Teens will participate in “Week Without Walls,” gaining hands-on experience with professionals across industries.
. Holistic Support: Providing laptops, professional clothing, transportation, and stipends to remove barriers that often prevent teens from pursuing their goals.
. Storytelling Campaigns: Sharing inspiring stories of teens who have benefited from these programs to engage the community and encourage further support.

“Teens and Transitional Age Youth are our future,” said Crystal Abasolo, Director of Workforce Development, YMCA of Greater San Francisco. “This partnership with Alaska Airlines will make it possible for more of our young people to have equity and access to the resources they need for success.”

Together, the YMCA of Greater San Francisco and Alaska Airlines are creating pathways for teens to explore their potential, gain critical skills, and confidently navigate their futures.
