Through YMCA pre-school, children embark on a voyage of learning with a curriculum that addresses the development of the whole child; spirit, mind and body.
By using a variety of strategies, our pre-schools utilize a creative curriculum that includes an appreciation for language and literature, listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Children also focus on values and lessons that include interaction with others and problem solving skills. The YMCA of San Francisco is Reggio-influenced in its approach to Pre-school.
Some "Reggio” characteristics include: organized and appealing classrooms, exploration and problem-solving as avenues of learning, and exemplary opportunities for expression through artistic “languages” such as painting, sculpting, collage, drama, and music. “Reggio” also values projects that are accessible over time, so that children can revisit and rethink ideas.
