Y Be Fit Physical Education Program: The Y Be Fit Program aims to improve fitness levels of elementary school children to meet California State Physical Education standards. Y Be Fit is a physical education program with a nutrition component that is administered at thirteen public schools in San Francisco, two schools in Marin County, and one school in Suisun Elementary. Y Be Fit supports children in Kindergarten through fifth grades and the program is funded through a Physical Education Program (PEP) grant from the Federal Department of Education. Truancy Intervention Program: Our Truancy Intervention Program provides case management services, supports, and opportunities for youth to get back on track in school. Staff work with closely with youth and their families to identify what obstacles are impeding their ability to go to school, and once this is determined, our staff work with youth to develop a plan that will lead them back to school. Building Futures Mentoring Program: A paraprofessional mental health/mentoring project, created to address the counseling needs of youth. The goals of our mentoring program include improving academic performance, personal social skills, and relationships with authority figures. Highly trained mentors meet weekly with mentees to discuss issues occurring in the youth's life. A key feature of our program is the inclusion of parents in the mentoring process, from matching their child to an appropriate mentor, to setting goals for the mentoring relationship. Afterschool Enrichment Programs: In collaboration with the San Francisco Unified School District, Urban Services YMCA offers Afterschool Enrichment Programs at 10 different school sites that provides youth with a host of activities that are based on their individual needs and the needs of their community (looking at the assets and opportunities). Services include: academic tutoring, recreation, mentoring, peer conflict resolution, leadership development, coaching/prevention education, service learning, and community service.
