Tennis Lessons
Private, Private Hits, semi-private, and Small Group lessons are available to adults and youth alike, and are taught by our certified U.S.P.T.A. and P.T.R. pros. All lessons are made by individual appointments, and can be scheduled by contacting the Tennis Department at 415/447-9602.
Purchasing Lessons
- Lessons can be purchased as single (01) sessions, or in a package of six (06).
- Tennis lessons are paid for at the Member Service Desk at the Main Post Gym.
- Lessons and fees MUST be paid for in advance of lessons.

Lesson Rates (effective - September 1, 2007)
Private Lessons are one-on-one instruction with a tennis pro.
- Facility Members - $60/hr, or 6 lessons for $330.
- Program Members - $75/hr, or 6 lessons for $420.
Private Hits consists of hitting and working out with our tennis pros.
This is not an instructional lesson.
- Facility Members - $50/hr, or 6 for $270.
- Program Members - $55/hr, or 6 for $300.
Semi-Private lessons consist of two players with a tennis pro.
- Facility Members - $33/hr, or 6 lessons for $170.
- Program Members - $40/hr, or 6 lessons for $200.
Group Lessons can consist of either 3 or 4 players with one tennis pro.
Group of 3:
- Facility Members - $25/hr or 6 lessons for $125.
- Program Members - $30/hr or 6 lessons for $150.
Group of 4:
- Facility Members - $20/hr or 6 lessons for $100.
- Program Members - $25/hr or 6 lessons for $125.

Adult Tennis: USTA Leagues & Coaching
Coaching is available from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Cost: Facility - $125 and Program - $150. YMCA League fee covers practice and match reservations; as well as home match balls. Facility members start registering 4-weeks before the start of the season at the member services desk at 63 Funston Avenue. Program members can register 2-weeks early.

Junior Tennis
The Presidio YMCA's Junior Tennis Program is for children and youth ages 5 to 17. Classes are divided by age and skill level with a 6 to 1 instructor/student ratio.
The YMCA staff of certified Professionals will help players develop the fundamentsl of each shot with a major emphasis on FUN! Coaches will also instruct on the finer points of hand-eye coordination, balance, footwork and developing game strategy.
There are two 7-week After-School Junior Tennis sessions in the Fall and Spring. We hold one 8-week Advanced Jr. Team tennis session each season (Spring, Summer and Fall). See court locations below. For a copy of this flyer or to register visit the Main Post Gym Bldg. #63.
Beginners: (Ages 5-11) - Tues. and/or Thurs. - 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Each session builds confidence through success, with coaches utilizing creative games like: Simon Says, Rain Forest, Coaches’ Office, Pizza Delivery, Animal Break and more! Intermediates/Advanced: (Ages 9-15) - Tues. and/or Thurs. - 5:00-6:30 p.m.

USTA Jr. Team Tennis Advanced : (Ages 9-15)

Each 2-hour practice session provides an all around workout that develops match play toughness. Players play competitive singles and/or doubles practice matches, as well as games like: Coaches’ Office, Animal Break, Substitution Elimination, Around the World, and King or Queen of the court. In addition to the 8 two-hour practice sessions, there will be a certain amount of official league tennis matches played against other clubs. Please register at the member services desk at 63 Funston Avenue starting two weeks prior to the first class. *Note: There are 3 junior league team seasons; spring, summer & fall.

Beginning/Intermediate players have been exposed to the proper grips for ground strokes and volleys, but have not yet been able to maintain a consistent rally during lessons, games or recreational play. Players in this level may have experienced from 1-4 after school program sessions.
Intermediate players have been able to maintain a consistent rally during lessons and group clinic games, but not during recreational play. In addition, intermediate players have just begun to learn how to serve, return and hit overheads.
Intermediate/Advanced players can maintain a consistent rally during lessons, group clinic games and have had some success during recreational play. In addition, intermediate/advanced players are able to consistently serve, return and hit overheads during lessons, group clinics, recreational play, and may have experienced some competitive play.
Advanced players are able to hit all shots and are able to maintain a consistent rally during lessons, group clinics, and recreational play, as well as have experienced tournament competition.

CARDIO TENNIS
"Heart Pumping Fitness!"
This Group Exercise class is a fun and energetic activity for anyone new to fitness or an avid enthusiast? This twice a week class developed by the Tennis Industry Association (TIA) is a great way to learn about tennis or practice your skills while participating in a great cardio-vascular workout. Courtesy tennis racquets are available.
