From the Executive Director

The Marin YMCA is a membership based, community service, not-for-profit organization. While the main facility rests in San Rafael, programs and services reach every corner of this very diverse county. Our mission as one of 15 branches of the YMCA of San Francisco is to build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities by enriching the lives of all people in spirit, mind and body.

This mission statement is a part of our work each day and is incorporated into every program we offer, from Yoga classes that help reduce stress while building strong bodies, to after school child care that keeps kids safe and teaches them to become good citizens by learning our 4 character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

As part of our mission, we are entrusted with the job of developing strong communities. This is part of what makes the YMCA unique. The YMCA is blessed to grant financial assistance, to the extent possible, to anyone (family, adult, seniors and children) who cannot afford the full price of our programs and services. The process to be considered for financial assistance requires the completion of a short application. Financial Assistance is made available through generous contributions made to our Strong Communities Campaign. In 2008, we assisted over 1,500 people by awarding scholarships to those who required financial help in order to experience our YMCA programs. These programs include membership, camps, adaptive yoga for people with Parkinson's disease, youth court, before and after school child care, swim lessons and much more.

In order to help the many people who need financial assistance in Marin County, our goal is to raise $187,000 during our upcoming Strong Communities Campaign. This money is raised right here in our community by volunteers who call on local businesses, friends and fellow members of our YMCA and ask for donations. As a membership organization, we do expect that members take on the commitment to help us help the less fortunate, by donating generously. Donations are tax deductible and stay right here in the community.
