In December 2011, with a long waitlist of students needing quality after school care, the principal of Sutro Elementary school in the Richmond District turned to the Y. In less than two months we were on site, providing 40 youth with free after school care. In two years we’ve doubled that number to 80 students, all receiving homework help and tutoring, participating in enrichment clubs, and pursuing recreation.
Our program runs daily from 2:40-6:00PM during the school year, assuring working parents that their kids are in our good hands after school. Each Friday, we go to a different part of the Richmond or Presidio, where the kids get to navigate their community and explore its resources.
