Membership Type DESCRIPTIONS


Adult Facility Membership
This membership includes complete use of the facility, 4 free guest passes, free Coach Approach appointments, and the use of other YMCA of San Francisco branches for a small fee. Facility members also receive a discounted (and in many cases free) rate when enrolling in Embarcadero YMCA classes and programs. Up to two children under 12 living at the same address are eligible to accompany a parent member at no additional charge.

San Francisco Association Membership (SAM)
This membership has all the same features as the Adult Facility Membership, with the additional option of using any San Francisco Area branch for no additional charge. These branches include: Buchanan YMCA, Marin YMCA, North Bay YMCA, Novato Family YMCA, Peninsula Family YMCA, Presidio Community YMCA, Richmond District YMCA, Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA, and Stonestown Family YMCA. Up to two children under 12 living at the same address are eligible to become Youth Family Members at no additional charge.


Bay Area Membership (BAM)
This membership allows for complete use of all branches in the YMCA of San Francisco and many branches throughout the entire Bay Area at no additional cost. At each branch, members pay the facility member rate for fee-based classes and programs. This membership is perfect for those who work downtown and live in an outlying neighborhood, who are often in other parts of the Bay Area, and/or anyone who likes a change scenery! Up to two children under the age of 12 living at the same address are eligible to become Youth Family Members at the Embarcadero YMCA at no additional charge.

Note: Please be aware that Home Branch Privileges among YMCAs will vary. Home Branch Privileges at the Embarcadero branch include preferential registration for Fitness Center Wellness Programs, and eligibility for 4 annual guest passes. BAM members from other Y's cannot use guest passes here.

Teen Membership
Complete facility use for teens and young adults, ages 13-19. Choose a 1, 3, or 6 month membership! Must have a valid form of ID. Youth under 18 must have a parent/guardian sign their liability waiver before beginning a membership.  Fitness orientation required prior to using any services within the facility.

Youth Access
Youth under 12 can use the facilities in accordance with the guidelines under Children Using Fitness Facilities, when accompanied by their member parent/guardian. They may enroll in programs at the Facility Member rate. Stop by the Member Services desk for more information.

Program Membership
This annual $50.00 membership entitles you to enroll in all fee-based classes and programs at the Program Member rate. Use of the facility is limited to only the class or program for which you are registered. There is a 15 minute grace period to leave the facility when the class is over.

Financial Assistance
Through the generous support of our donors, we provide financial assistance to the extent possible to those in need. Financial assistance is available on a first come, first serve basis to qualified applicants who live and/or work in San Francisco. Simply stop by Member Services and request a Financial Assistance application. Applications are processed twice a month on the 1st and 15th. Completed applications consist of the completed financial assistance form as well as photocopies of proof of income and proof of residence or place of work. Holiday Hours
The Embarcadero YMCA is closed on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Easter Sunday,Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.

The facility will be open for limited hours on: Columbus Day, Day After Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve. Where possible, free access to other YMCA branches will be given on these days.

In addition, The Embarcadero YMCA closes for major facility maintenance one week a year, usually in December or January. Dates will be posted in the facility in advance.

Guest Passes
Embarcadero YMCA Adult Facility members are allotted four complimentary guest passes per year. The guest must be accompanied by a member and the guest must have a valid photo ID with them. Guests must be 18 years of age or older to sign the mandatory release of liability. Any guest under the age of 18 must be present with their parent or guardian.


Day Passes
Day passes are available for members of other YMCAs or non-members. All guests must have a valid photo ID.

Locker Rental

Long-term small box lockers are available to rent $10/month. Please inquire at Member Services.

Children Using Fitness Facilities
Children 12 and under are welcome to use the pool and basketball courts accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children 12 and under may NOT enter

the third floor fitness center or aerobics classes. Children 13-17, who are not

teen members, may use the fitness center and participate in aerobics classes when directly supervised by a parent or guardian. Teen members with Teen Membership may use any part of the facility once they have completed a fitness orientation.
