Type 2 diabetes is a serious health condition that impacts millions of people across the U.S. It’s more than just high blood sugar—Type 2 diabetes is a leading cause of death and can lead to severe complications like heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, high blood pressure, and blindness. Though there is no cure, early detection, and lifestyle changes can make a significant difference.

Prediabetes is a critical warning sign. Affecting 1 in 3 U.S. adults, prediabetes is marked by higher-than-normal blood sugar levels but is not high enough to be diagnosed with diabetes. The alarming part? Most people with prediabetes show little to no symptoms, and only 10% are aware they have it. Understanding your risk is the first step toward preventing diabetes and protecting your future health.

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program is proving to be a model that helps people achieve these changes. Our program delivers a CDC-approved curriculum and is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP). It is the largest in-person provider in the United States.
