Senior Lifeguard
Description
General Function
Under the supervision of the Lifeguard Coordinator, the Senior Lifeguard is in charge of emergency and incident prevention and ensuring member safety by mentoring staff and monitoring lifeguard quality, monitoring the pool chemistry and overall facility safety, and creating and overseeing the lifeguard rotations. The Senior Lifeguard is a part of the lifeguard rotation and should be able to provide swim instruction, teach water aerobics, and coach swimming as necessary. The Senior Lifeguard is a resource to the staff and when the Directors and Lifeguard Coordinator is not present, the Senior Lifeguard is responsible for general operation and membership service.
Skills and Requirements
Entry Requirement
1. Minimum 18 years of age.
2. Current YMCA approved first aid certification.
3. Current YMCA approved CPR certification.
4. Current YMCA Lifeguard certification
5. Lifeguard Instructor Certification
6. CPR/AED Instructor Certification
7. First Aid Instructor Certification
8. Demonstrated the ability to exercise mature judgment and tact.
9. Be able to work well with members, staff and volunteers.
10. Strong knowledge and experience in the area of aquatics.
11. Have the ability to interpret YMCA aquatic program philosophy and motivate others.
12. Knowledge of staff volunteer supervision and program management preferred.
Essential Functions
1) Creates and monitors the daily lifeguard rotation.
2) Implements regular spot checks and red cap drills.
3) Maintains a regular presence on the deck to observe lifeguard quality and general operation.
4) Responsible for general operation when Directors/Lifeguard Coordinator is not present.
5) Monitors and maintains records of the pool chemistry checks.
6) Completes End of Shift Reports.
7) Monitors and maintains daily pool usage form.
8) Assist Lifeguard Coordinator with coordination and implementation of Rescue Ready Program.
9) Maintains a clean and safe pool deck.
10) Provides excellent membership service by communicating with members and educating members about pool operation and safety.
11) Holds regular Lifeguard Trainings and CPR/AED/First Aid Trainings
12) Attends and plays an active role in weekly Sr. Guard Meetings.
13) Oversees monthly skill checks with staff.
14) Assists with monthly in-services.
15) Performs monthly lifeguard evaluations and provides regular feedback to lifeguard staff.
16) Ensures that all lifeguard policies and procedures are upheld.
17) Ensures that pool rules are consistently enforced.
18) Assists with hiring of new lifeguards.
19) Assists with updating/evaluating Pool Rules.
20) Performs daily Safety Checks of pool deck and equipment.
21) Flexible schedule, willing to cover shifts as needed.
22) Participates in Strong Communities Campaign.
23) All other duties assigned by the supervisor.
