Wellness Coach
Description
GENERAL FUNCTION
Personal Trainers/Wellness Coaches, under the supervision of the Health and Wellness Director will provide positive guidance and leadership in all exercise programs. He/She will create and deliver fitness programs including cardiovascular exercise, muscle conditioning and flexibility training. The responsibility also includes the facility’s overall goal of retaining members through excellent customer service and helping members reach their goals. Personal Trainers/Wellness Coaches will stay updated on our facilities current wellness programs in order to promote them to members. All staff will be responsible for the safety of members and participants in and around the fitness facility.
Skills and Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 18 years of age
• Current First Aid, CPR, AED and CAP
• YMCA’s Principles of Health and Fitness and/or National Certification. Personal Trainer Instructor within six months.
• An understanding of physical education principles, along with specific knowledge of strength training. Being able to work with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
• Position requires a friendly, enthusiastic and conscientious team player with excellent communication skills (including listening), must posses a professional image.
• Basic computer skills to be able to effectively record data and communicate to other staff and members.
• Be an ambassador of the Strong Communities Campaign.
POSITION COMPENTENCIES

• Demonstrate the "Character Counts" values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all your dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
• Participate in training and abides by the "New Perspectives" guidelines for the YMCA of San Francisco.
• All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
• Able to provide orientations for members, and support a safe environment to workout.
• Record and keep track of the member’s progress. Follow up with member by phone or two weeks after initial orientation.
• During initial orientation, asses whether or not member may need to start Personal Training or the Introductory Fitness Group.
• Ensure that member’s fitness needs are addressed and supported by developing, implementing and monitoring programs. This includes goal setting, conducting orientations and reprogramming.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with members. This means working proactively: greeting members by name, approach members and provide guided assistance (correcting form or giving suggestions), walk all around the fitness center and make an effort to acknowledge all members within the room.
• Responsible for the appearance and flow of the Wellness Center, enforcing rules and etiquette procedures, keeping all equipment clean, tidying up all areas of the fitness center, ensuring that each member has a positive and safe YMCA experience. Maintain availability, a professional attitude and respond to member inquiries.
• Keep up to date information on the Chinatown YMCA’s programs for the purpose of increasing member knowledge and wellness opportunities. This includes class schedules – land and water, mind/body, specialty classes, etc. Actively promote, support and participate in fitness/wellness programs.
• Check the floor schedule at the beginning of each shift: be aware of appointments and names of members scheduled.
• Promote Personal Training to members during orientation sessions.
