Hayward Rec Connect

The Rec Connect Initiative was created to provide a vibrant community hub for San Francisco families.  It is a public-private partnership, sponsored by the Department of Children Youth and Families and the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, and Community Based Organizations.  In our case, the Buchanan YMCA and is the partner in this unique opportunity.  We are pleased to announce that the Hamilton Rec Connect program has moved to Margaret Hayward Playground, due to Hamilton's rennovation schedule. We provide free enrichment programs for youth and families and are charged with designing and implementing recreational programs which serve children, youth, and families in a welcoming, healthy, and safe environment.

All programming for the Hayward Rec Connect is free.  We offer programs for parents, toddlers/preschoolers, families, youth and teens.  Everyone is welcome!

Inquires should be sent to Melissa Langness or call (415) 292-2018, (415) 292-3033.

The Western Addition Beacon Center

Located at John Muir Elementary School and recently Raoul Wallenberg Traditional High School, the Western Addition Beacon Center (WA Beacon), a program of the Buchanan YMCA, provides quality after-school programming for youth and also serves as a community center addressing the specific needs of the Western Addition community. Our mission is to enrich the lives of community members and to ensure the healthy development of young people. We offer a wide array of lunch time and after-school programming, including academic support, college preparation, computer and media technology, cultural arts and events, recreational activities that foster mental and physical health, and referral based case management. We also recognize the importance of family and adult services and work to serve the entire community. The Beacon strives to inspire youth and uplift the community through our ability and willingness to address the most critical community needs.
