About the Job
Under the direction of the Site Director, the Safety & Support Leader is responsible for monitoring the school grounds including the courtyard, restrooms, school building interior, and surrounding school grounds to keep students safe and engaged during the school day and out-of-school time programs. The Safety & Support Leader will assist the Site Director as requested, especially in the areas of behavior management and conflict mediation. The ideal candidate has experience with restorative practices and de-escalation strategies.
The Bayview YMCA is seeking Safety & Support Leaders for the following program sites:
- KIPP Elementary School
- KIPP Middle School
- MLK Jr Middle School Beacon
Salary range: $20.00 to $24.00 per hour
Minimum Qualifications
- 21 years or older
- Committed to providing young people with the highest-quality youth development experience
- Experience working with multi-ethnic and multicultural elementary/middle school youth
- Passion for social justice and knowledge of the Bayview Hunters Point community, its residents, and a desire to make a difference
- Skills in restorative practices and/or de-escalation training
- Strong understanding of the theory and practice of youth development
- Experience teaching specific content area(s)
- Ability to engage with middle school youth and build meaningful relationships with them
- Creativity and interest in planning hands-on projects for youth
- Team player with proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socio-economic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds
- Proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date
- Fingerprint background check clearance
- TB test clearance
- Provide documentation that meets SFUSD Instructional Aid requirements or take equivalency exam
Preferred Qualifications
- 23 years of age or older
- Bachelor’s degree
- Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Tagalog
- 3+ years’ experience working with multi-ethnic and multicultural elementary/middle school youth
- Security Guard Registration and/or Restraint Training Certification
