About the Job
The After School Program Leader provides meaningful and enriching opportunities for youth in YMCA programs that are offered at local elementary and middle schools. The Program Leader will help students develop and strengthen academic, physical, and social skills through tutoring and mentorship. Program Leaders will provide academic enrichment and tutoring in classroom groups of up to 20 students, as well as organize and provide outdoor recreational activities in the school yards. Individuals hired for this position will work under the supervision of the Program Site Coordinators and Directors, and will need to be flexible, willing to take initiative, be punctual, and able to make a commitment to work throughout the entire school year.
After School Program dates: must be able to work August 19, 2024 – June 4, 2025
Stonestown YMCA is seeking After School Program Leaders for the 2024-25 School Year at the following program sites:
- Jose Ortega Elementary School - 400 Sargent St, San Francisco, 94132
- Dianne Feinstein Elementary School - 2550 25th Ave, San Francisco, 94116
- Sheridan Elementary School - 431 Capitol Ave, San Francisco, 94112
- Miraloma Elementary School - 175 Omar Way, San Francisco, 94127
- Commodore Sloat Elementary School - 50 Darien Way, San Francisco, 94127
- West Portal Elementary School - 5 Lenox Way, San Francisco, 94127
Minimum Qualifications
- 18+ years of age for elementary school programs, 21+ years for middle school programs
- Associate’s degree or higher, or High School diploma/equivalent, plus any of following:
- Completed 48 college units verified by transcript
- Passed CA Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST)
- Passed District Instructional Aide Exam
- Experience working with youth (elementary or middle school)
- Highly motivated to provide quality program opportunities to youth
- Team player
- Knowledge or expertise in youth development
- Comfortable leading physical activities with youth
- Available daily Monday-Friday during youth program hours; shifts vary ~1:00-6:00 pm
- Willing to participate in bi-annual evaluations and supervision meetings as needed
- Current YMCA approved CPR and First Aid certification (training available upon hire)
- TB Test clearance
- Fingerprint background check clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent
- Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other languages strongly preferred
- Knowledge of arts, dance, drama, or sports
- Connections in the local San Francisco community
