Embarcadero YMCA Community Programs
The Embarcadero YMCA is committed to serving the diverse needs of the children, teens and adults living in South of Market and throughout San Francisco. Critical programs, such as after school care, Youth Chance High School, Youth & Government and financial assistance are as essential to our mission as our full array of wellness and aquatics programs. The following programs are made possible through the generosity of donors.
Youth Chance High School
A free, private, alternative high school serving 50 at-risk teens from low-income and culturally diverse communities each year. For information on enrollment, go to our Teen page.
After School at Canon Barcus Community House
After School at Canon Barcus Community House provides educational enrichment for the children of formerly homeless families in a new supportive-housing complex at 8th and Natoma Streets.
Orrick Year-Round Enrichment Program at Bessie Carmichael Elementary
Providing educational, cultural, and recreational enhancement for the only South of Market elementary school where 85% of the students are living below the poverty line.
Youth & Government
An opportunity for high school students to learn first hand the complexity and importance of the lawmaking, court and political processes. For more information, visit our Teen page.
Camp
More than 300 scholarships are awarded to low-income families allowing their children to attend a week of fun, challenge, self-discovery, and friendship. For more information, visit our Camp pages.
Community Karate
Community members of all ages learn Shotokan Karate, traditional karate ideals, participate in international tournaments and discuss values and issues. For more information, visit our Teen page.
Disabled Adult Fitness Training
Assists individuals who have recently experienced physical and/or cognitive disability to improve their functional abilities through routine exercises and social interactions. For more information, visit our Health and Fitness pages.
Financial Assistance
In the hope that no one is turned away because of the inability to pay, financial assistance is offered for facility membership, programs and classes. For information, visit our Membership page.
Strong Communities Campaign
Each year volunteers, members, program participants, and friends join our annual Community Support Campaign and "share the YMCA story." Their purpose - to help us reach our goal of $280,000 in contributions to fund the life -changing programs described in this flyer. Donations make programs possible, but your time is a treasure too.
