Volunteer Opportunities
The Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA is committed to a volunteer program that supports and maintains a well-screened, well-trained, diverse team of volunteers involved at all levels in the YMCA, working in partnership with staff, members, other volunteers and the community at large to exemplify the Y mission-in-action.
Why Volunteer?
As a volunteer, you will be providing an invaluable service to the YMCA and, therefore, to the community. However, you will also benefit from the experience in many ways by:

Position Description |
| Sales/ Customer Service Intern |
Assist front desk staff at courtesy counter, greet members, learn about various membership rates, give tours and sell memberships. (8-12 weeks min.) |
| Human Resources Assistant |
Learn and help with Human Resources paperwork including payroll and benefits administration, filing and photocopying.
(8-12 weeks min.) |
| Administrative Services Intern |
Assist with clerical, administrative and organizational support to the Administrative Department and Volunteer Program. (2-3 hrs/week) |
| Café Volunteer |
Cooking, cleaning, washing dishes, or baking. |
| Membership and Marketing Volunteer |
Assist with clerical, administrative and organizational
support to the Marketing Department. |
| Development Intern |
Assist in the implementation of annual fundraising efforts,
including presentation materials preparation, donor cultivation, campaign and donor recognition |
| Group Exercise Instructors |
Teach an exercise class to YMCA members.
Experience preferred, training provided. |
| Fitness Club/ Clinic/ League Leaders |
Help our members by teaching nutrition,
sports injury prevention, etc. etc. etc. |
| Youth Development Intern |
Assist Youth Director with clerical, administrative,
and organizational support. (3-10 hrs/week) |
| Youth Department Intern |
Summer volunteers who will assist staff on field trips
and summer outings/coverage. Able to work with at-risk
youth ages 12-22 years old. |
| Youth Counselor Volunteers |
Assist Youth Staff and Youth in daily program acitivitys.
Experience with at-risk youth, PTSD, anger management,
conflict resolution a plus. (3-5 hrs/week) |
| Girls Group Leader |
Work with a group of wonderful 12-17 year olds!!
Run discussion groups, lead field trips, serve as positive role model and advocate for these amazing girls!! |
| Youth Dance Instructor |
Share your dance talent with youth who have the same passion! Teach hip-hop dance to our eager youth who love to perform!!
(2-4 hrs/week) |
| Reception Desk-Senior Center |
Greet members, welcome visitors, assist with monitoring of Sr. Ctr
& activities (2 hrs/wk minimum) |
Van Driver-Senior Program
& Youth Program |
Drive seniors and/oryouth in 10 passenger van on field trips
(Must have Class B License with Air Brake provision)
(4 hrs/mnth min) |
| Volunteer Program Assistant |
Recruit new volunteers, train, plan appreciation events,
track hours, etc. (2 hrs/wk minimum) |
| Newsletter Editor |
Create and edit a quarterly Volunteer Program newsletter. |
