During lap swim times freestyle, backstroke, breastroke and butterfly stroke are allowed. Water exercise and water walking are not allowed during lap swim times.

 

Program Descriptions

Adult Lessons
Swimming lessons are for everyone! Instruction is caring and personalized and led by experienced, certified instructors. Four levels of classes are offered: Fear of Water teaches water adjustment and confidence building skills. Adult Step I teaches basic stroke technique, floating and kicking. Adult Step II teaches refinement of basic strokes and intermediate techniques. Better Your Stroke teaches advanced swim techniques, endurance and turns. Click here for times, dates and rates.

Aqua Aerobics/ Senior Aqua Aerobics
Exercise, Socialize, Mobilize! Aqua Aerobics is a great way to get fit. Participants perform movements and specific exercises that cross over and provide strengthening benefits in day-to-day activities. All classes are lead by one of our dedicated and caring water fitness volunteers. Swimming skills are not needed for participation.

Community Swim
Have fun in the water with family and friends! Our aquatic facilities are open to families within the community three times a week. Only adults with children are allowed to attend. Children less than four feet tall must have an adult with them at all times. Admission is $1 per person and space is limited.

Lap Swim
During lap swim times freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke and butterfly stroke are allowed. Water walking and water exercises are not allowed during these times.

Masters Swim
Get a complete workout swimming! Swim with other adults of your level. Each Masters session has a limited enrollment to allow for more individualized coaching. You must be able to swim 2,000 meters (40 laps) in 1 hour to enroll in Masters. Please contact coach Michael Strand for more information at (415) 447-2509 or mstrand@ymcasf.org. Open Swim
During open swim 1 lane is closed for aquatics programming. All other lanes can be used for lap swim, water walking or water exercises.

TriClub Swim
See yourself succeed as a triathlete. When you join the Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA’s Triathlon Club you are encouraged to participate during our Tri-Club swim times. Club members receive specialized training to prepare for open water swimming, stroke refinement and a general endurance workout.For more infomation about the Tri-Club contact Keegen Brookes,Triathlon Club Coordinator.

Youth Lessons
Students are taught how to swim in a group lesson where they also learn about aquatic safety and how water activities can be a lifetime of fitness. A variety of classes are offered to meet your family’s needs including afternoons, evenings and Saturday morning. Learn more about the various levels of classes we have for youth.

Youth Swim Club
Learn all four competing strokes, flip turns and water safety skills. Swim club includes water sports, fun games and weekly workouts with expert coaches. Our swim club is open to all youth ages 6-16 who can swim 25 meters of both front and back crawl and tread water for two minutes. Click here for times, dates and rates.
